Since 1992, June has been recognized as Men’s Health Month; a designated time for men to focus on their health and prioritize their well-being. Here are some ways men can take control over their overall health and wellness.
- Get regular health check-ups: Regular health check-ups are an essential part of maintaining good health. Monitoring health statistics such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and weight can catch certain conditions early. Talk to your doctor about scheduling yearly physical or wellness checks.
- Eat a healthy diet: Diet plays an important role in determining your overall health and wellness. Eating balanced meals and limiting processed foods will nourish your body with the proper nutrients and support your daily needs. Staying hydrated is also essential for proper digestion, healthy skin, and normal bodily functions.
- Be active: Physical activity can improve all aspects of your life, including physical and mental health. Regular exercise can strengthen your heart, improve circulation, lower blood pressure, and manage weight. In addition to these physical attributes, physical activity can also boost metabolism and decrease stress.
- Avoid smoking: Quitting smoking improves your overall health while also lowering your risk of developing heart disease, lung disease, and cancer.
- Limit alcohol consumption: Limiting alcohol consumption can reduce your risk of developing long-term health conditions such as liver disease and cancers.
- Manage stress: Finding ways to manage stress and anxiety can benefit your overall well-being. Meditation, deep breathing, and physical activity are all ways to reduce stress.
- Get enough sleep: Healthy sleeping habits are essential to your health. The body is repaired and restored while you sleep; lack of sleep can lead to a weakened immune system and increased risk of certain conditions.
