David Barker, MD, FACOG

Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology

David Barker, MD, FACOG, is a board-certified specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Galen OB/GYN Ridgeside. Chattanooga native, Dr. Barker attended The Baylor School. He completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and he went to the University of Tennessee at Memphis for medical school.

Dr. Barker has been in practice since 2003 and has privileges at Parkridge East Hospital, Erlanger Baroness Hospital, and Parkridge Medical Center. Dr. Barker was interested in medicine due to the intersection of science, interpersonal relationships, and compassionate service. He chose OB/GYN as his specialty because it blends care for acute medical issues with long-term continuity and blends treatment via surgeries and medical approaches. Dr. Barker’s care philosophy is to approach patients with compassion and empathy, as well as apply sound medical judgment to alleviate suffering and prevent disease. His favorite part of his job is interacting with patients and staff and using God-given knowledge to help women in times of medical adversity.

Dr. Barker’s perfect day off would be having some quiet time with a nice cup of coffee and Bible, a nice lunch with his wife, and hiking or boating. His hobbies include: being involved in his church, playing bluegrass guitar with friends, waterskiing, and spending time with his three kids, whose ages range from college to the 8th grade. His favorite thing about Chattanooga is the outdoor opportunities for hiking, camping, and water activities.
