Lifestyle & Internal Medicine
Melanie Blake, MD, MBA is a board-certified internal medicine physician spearheading Lifestyle Medicine at Galen. She was born and raised in Central Alabama. She decided to pursue medicine due to her passion for taking care of the people and exposure to medicine through her mother who worked as a cardiovascular nurse. After obtaining her Bachelor’s in Science and graduating Magna Cum Laude at Florida State University, she attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine for her medical degree and completed her residency in internal medicine thereafter. Dr. Blake has been involved in numerous decision-making committees, leadership positions at hospitals, and community service work over the years in the Chattanooga area. Her and her husband were drawn to move to Chattanooga due to the great outdoors and family lifestyle it offers. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, biking, the outdoors, and most importantly spending time with her family. She loves the people and geography of Chattanooga and is happy to call the city her home.
Lifestyle medicine shifts the focus of medical care to a patient driven model which allows patients to improve various aspects of their life which may or may not involve medicine. Lifestyle medicine physicians encourage patients to implement healthy lifestyle choices in addition to traditional medicine. These include nutrition, physical activity, sleep hygiene, stress, social networks, and risky substances. As a lifestyle and internal medicine physician, Dr. Blake works with patients to define what is healthy and motivate them to take the appropriate steps to accomplish their health goals. She believes it is very important for her goals as a physician to line up with her patients’ goals so she can treat them. Her favorite part of being a physician is the relationships she builds with her patients.
Lifestyle Medicine at Galen led by Dr. Blake will take traditional internal medicine to the next level by offering a team of experts to support patients on their health journey.
